Monthly accounting and tax help, explained in plain language
Month-End Accounting & Tax HelpRemote, Across the United States
Esti closes your books each month, then walks through the numbers with you in ordinary words: what the business earned, what it spent, what it owes, and how much cash is on hand. Bank, credit card, sales, and payroll accounts are reconciled, so tax planning happens during the year instead of the following April.
The work continues year-round with payroll tax, sales tax, and returns for S-corps, partnerships, and individuals. As an Enrolled Agent, Esti has federal representation rights and can review an IRS or state notice with you. Books behind by a few months, or returns behind by a few years, are a common place to start.

What does year-round accounting look like?
It means a monthly close instead of a once-a-year scramble. Esti reconciles your bank, credit card, sales and payroll accounts each month, then walks through the financial statements with you so you know what the business earned, spent, owes, and has available in cash.
Those monthly numbers become the basis for tax planning. Esti prepares S-corporation, partnership and individual returns, handles payroll and sales tax work, and uses what the books show during the year to plan ahead for the year-end bill.
If an IRS or state notice arrives, don't ignore it. Esti is an Enrolled Agent with federal representation rights and can review the notice with you and act on your behalf where EA authority applies. Messy books or unfiled returns are a common starting point.
Is monthly accounting right for you?
Not sure if monthly accounting is worth it for a business your size?
Monthly accounting makes sense when you want to know where your business stands before the year is over. Each month we close the books, reconcile bank, credit card, sales and payroll activity, then walk through the financial statements with you so the numbers mean something. You see what the business earned, what it spent, what it owes, and how much cash is actually available.
That monthly picture is also what makes tax planning possible. When we already know your profit in August, we can talk about the year-end tax bill in September instead of finding out in April. Most accountants see clients once a year at filing time. Esti works with you all year.
If your books are behind or messy, that is a normal starting point, not a reason to wait. The same goes for unfiled returns or an IRS or state notice sitting on your desk. As an Enrolled Agent, Esti has federal representation rights and can review the notice with you and explain your options. Book an appointment to talk it through.
Who it's for
Who comes to us for monthly accounting and tax help?
Most clients are small business owners who want to know where they stand before December, not after. Others arrive with an IRS or state notice, returns that never got filed, or books that stopped balancing a while ago. These are the situations we see most often.
-
Owners who only hear from their accountant at tax time
If your current setup means one conversation in March and silence the rest of the year, you learn your tax bill after there's much you can do about it. We close your books every month and walk through what the numbers say, so decisions about equipment, owner pay, and distributions happen while they still affect the outcome.
-
Books that got away from you
Bank feeds stopped matching, categories drifted, and the last few months never got reconciled. That's a normal starting point, not a reason to put it off. We reconcile bank, credit card, sales, and payroll activity, sort out what's actually there, then keep it current month to month so the backlog doesn't rebuild.
-
An IRS or state notice just arrived
Open it and let's read it together. Notices carry response dates, and the letter usually tells us what the agency is questioning. Esti is an Enrolled Agent, which carries federal representation rights, so she can work with the IRS directly where that authority applies. We explain what the notice says and what your options are.
-
Several years behind on filing
Unfiled returns feel heavier the longer they sit. We start by identifying which years are actually missing and what records exist for each one, then put the work in a sensible order. You'll understand what needs to be filed and what the plan looks like before any of it begins.
-
Payroll and sales tax deadlines to keep up with
Payroll tax and sales tax run on their own calendars, and penalties often come from missed filings rather than unpaid amounts. We handle both alongside your monthly close, so the filings match what your books show and you're not reconstructing a quarter from memory at the deadline.
-
S-corp, partnership, and individual filers
We prepare S-corporation, partnership, and individual returns, and it's the same person who reviewed your monthly numbers all year. That means fewer year-end questions and no hunt for missing detail in March. If you own a business and also file personally, both sides get looked at together.
Practice Areas
What We Handle for Small Business Owners
Three areas of work: monthly accounting so you know where the business stands, tax returns for S-corps, partnerships and individuals, and Enrolled Agent help when an IRS or state notice arrives. Esti explains each step in ordinary words.
Monthly Accounting and Payroll
Each month we close the books, reconcile the accounts, and go through what the business earned, spent, owes and has available in cash. A typical month runs 5 to 10 hours.
-
We reconcile bank, credit card, sales and payroll accounts so the month is complete before anything gets reported. Budgeting and forecasting are separate work, not part of the monthly close.
-
After the close, we walk the financial statements with you: what the profit figure includes, where the cash went, and which numbers moved compared with last month.
-
Payroll tax filings handled on schedule and reconciled to your books, so wages, withholding and deposits agree with what appears on the financial statements.
-
Sales tax returns prepared and checked against recorded sales, which keeps filing periods from drifting out of line with the books.
Tax Return Preparation
Returns for S-corporations, partnerships and individuals, prepared from books we already know because we worked on them all year. Monthly figures get used to plan ahead for the year-end bill.
-
Prepared from reconciled books, with shareholder wages and distributions checked against payroll records before the return is filed.
-
Prepared from the year's closed books, with partner allocations and K-1s reviewed so each partner knows what carries over to a personal return.
-
Personal returns prepared alongside the business return, so company income and personal items are handled in one conversation instead of two.
IRS and State Notices
If a notice arrives, do not set it aside. Bring it to us and we will read it with you. Esti is an Enrolled Agent, an IRS-authorized tax professional with federal representation rights.
-
We go through the letter together: which tax year it covers, what the IRS or state is asking for, which documents answer it, and when the response is due.
-
Where EA authority applies, Esti can deal with the IRS on your behalf and handle the correspondence, so you are not working through the letters on your own.
-
Behind by a few years, or returns never filed? We sort out what is actually missing and set an order to file in, so you can work through it a step at a time.
Is monthly accounting worth it if your business is small?
Monthly accounting helps at any size, because the decisions that affect your tax bill happen during the year, not in April. Each month we reconcile bank, credit card, sales and payroll activity, close the books, and go through the statements with you so you know what the business earned, what it spent, what it owes, and how much cash is actually available. With those numbers current, we can talk about what your tax picture looks like before the year closes.
Messy books are a normal starting point, and so are unfiled returns or several years of unresolved problems. We review what you have, explain what needs to be done, and work out a plan to get you current. If an IRS or state notice arrives, bring it to us rather than setting it aside. Esti is an Enrolled Agent and can represent clients where that authority applies.
DIY vs. Working With Us
What changes when you stop handling the books alone?
Software can record transactions, but it won't reconcile the accounts, explain what the numbers mean, or answer a notice from the IRS. Here is what handling it yourself usually looks like next to monthly work with Esti, an Enrolled Agent with federal representation rights.
How often you see your numbers
You look at the books in March, when the year is already closed and nothing can be changed.
Your month is closed and reviewed every month, so you know where the business stands now.
Accuracy of the books
Bank, credit card, sales, and payroll accounts drift out of balance and errors carry forward for months.
Bank, credit card, sales, and payroll accounts are reconciled each month before anything is reported.
Understanding the P&L
You get a report from the software and are left guessing what earned, spent, owed, and available cash really mean.
Esti walks through the statements with you in ordinary words and answers questions as they come up.
Payroll and sales tax
Filing deadlines are tracked on your own, and missed or late filings surface after the fact.
Payroll tax and sales tax filings are handled as part of the monthly work.
Planning for the tax bill
You find out what you owe when the return is finished, with no time left to act on it.
Monthly numbers are used to plan ahead during the year, before the return is prepared.
Business and personal returns
You piece together the entity return and your own 1040 from records that were never reviewed.
S-corporation, partnership, and individual returns are prepared from books that have been closed monthly.
If an IRS or state notice arrives
You respond alone, or set the letter aside because the language is hard to follow.
We review the notice with you, explain it, and Esti can represent you where EA authority applies.
Messy books or unfiled years
Back years pile up and it gets harder to know where to start.
We sort out what actually needs to be done and set a plan to get current.
How We Work
What happens from your first call to monthly reporting?
Four steps: an intake conversation, a review of your current books, monthly closings we explain to you, and tax returns or IRS representation when they're needed.
-
Book your free consultation
Schedule a time with Esti and say where things stand: your entity type, how your books are kept now, whether payroll or sales tax is involved, and any notices you've received. If the books are a mess, that's fine. It's the starting point, not a problem.
-
We review what you have
We look at your bank, credit card, sales and payroll records to see what's reconciled, what isn't, and whether any years are unfiled. You get a plain-language summary of what needs to happen and the order we'd work through it.
-
Your month closes and we explain it
Each month we reconcile your accounts and close the books, then walk through the statements with you: what the business earned, spent, owes, and has available in cash. Month-end accounting usually runs 5 to 10 hours. Questions get answered in ordinary words.
-
Returns filed, notices reviewed with you
We prepare S-corp, partnership and individual returns from numbers you've already seen, so April holds few surprises, and we use the monthly figures to plan ahead. If an IRS or state notice arrives, Esti is an Enrolled Agent and can represent you where that authority applies.
Why Work With Esti
What makes year-round accounting different from tax-season help?
Most accountants see you once a year. Esti closes your books every month, reconciles bank, credit card, sales, and payroll activity, then walks through the statements with you so you know what the business earned, spent, owes, and has in cash. That monthly picture is what makes tax planning possible before December, instead of guessing in April.
Esti is an Enrolled Agent, an IRS-authorized tax professional with federal representation rights, and a member of NAEA and the Worldwide Women's Association. If an IRS or state notice arrives, she reviews it with you and can represent you where EA authority applies. Questions get answered in ordinary words, not accountant language.

FAQ
Questions small business owners ask before they hire an accountant
Short, direct answers about month-end accounting, payroll and sales tax, tax returns, and what happens when an IRS or state notice shows up in your mailbox. If your question isn't here, call Esti at 1(917)623-4217.
What does month-end accounting actually include?
Month-end accounting closes and reviews your business activity for the month so you know what you earned, spent, owe, and have in cash. That includes bank, credit card, sales, and payroll reconciliation, followed by a review of the financial statements with you. Most months take roughly 5 to 10 hours of work on our side, depending on transaction volume and how many accounts need reconciling.
Do you explain the numbers or just send a P&L?
We explain them. Handing over a monthly profit and loss statement is where most reporting stops, and it leaves owners guessing about what the figures mean. Esti walks through the statements with you in ordinary words: what changed from last month, where the money went, and what the numbers suggest about your year-end tax position. Questions get answered as they come up, not deferred to April.
I received an IRS or state notice. What should I do?
Don't ignore it, and don't respond before someone reads it with you. Send it over and we'll review what the notice is asking for, what deadline applies, and what documentation is involved. Esti is an Enrolled Agent, an IRS-authorized tax professional with federal representation rights, and can step in to represent you where that EA authority applies. Bring the notice to a scheduled Zoom appointment so we can look at it together.
My books are a mess. Is that a problem?
No. Messy books are one of the most common reasons owners call, and cleaning them up is part of the work. We start by looking at what exists, what's missing, and how far back the gaps go. If there are unfiled returns or several years of unresolved issues, we'll explain what needs to be done and build a plan to work through it in order.
Which tax returns do you prepare?
We prepare and complete S-corporation, partnership, and individual returns. Because we work with your books every month, the return is built from numbers you've already seen and discussed rather than a year's worth of records assembled in a rush. That monthly information is also what makes it possible to plan ahead and reduce surprises on the year-end tax bill.
Do you handle payroll tax and sales tax?
Yes. Payroll tax and sales tax are both part of the service, and payroll and sales activity are reconciled as part of the month-end close. Filing deadlines for these fall throughout the year rather than once in the spring, which is one reason monthly work is easier to keep current than an annual catch-up.
You're remote. How does that work, and who do you serve?
We work remotely with small business owners across the United States, and all meetings happen on Zoom. Documents and statements are shared electronically, and monthly reviews happen by scheduled appointment: weekday evenings from 6 PM, and any time on Saturday or Sunday. Esti is a member of the National Association of Enrolled Agents and the Worldwide Women's Association.
How do I get started, and what is the introductory rate?

There's a special introductory rate available for a limited number of small business clients who sign up for monthly accounting services.
